The Giant Powder Company, the first firm in the United States to make dynamite, worked this rocky promontory after explosions wrecked two earlier plants. On the morning of 9 July 1892 a nitroglycerin house went up, the rest of the site followed building by building, and nine workers were killed. The blast broke windows for miles, including on the university campus, and the company moved its works north. A racetrack grandstand was later built over the ground.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
