Emory moves from Oxford to Druid Hills on Coca-Cola money
1915
Druid Hills, DeKalb County, Georgia
Emory College had sat in Oxford, Georgia since 1836. In 1915 Asa Candler of Coca-Cola handed over 75 acres of his Druid Hills development at North Decatur and Clifton Roads along with a million dollars, and the school rechartered in DeKalb County as a university. Henry Hornbostel drew the plan, said the ravines reminded him of Tuscany, and laid the campus out as a Beaux-Arts quadrangle with bridges thrown across the gullies.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
