Asa Griggs Candler Jr., the son of Coca-Cola's founder, built this 42 acre estate in 1922 on what was then Williams Mill Road. The road was renamed Briarcliff after the house. The grounds carried tennis courts, a golf course, greenhouses, two swimming pools and a private zoo, and the neighbours complained about the noise and the smell until he gave the animals to Grant Park Zoo in the 1930s along with money to keep them. Emory University owns the campus now and the mansion is on the National Register.
