Eldridge Johnson gives Camden a library and gets a park named back
1918
Camden, New Jersey
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Eldridge Johnson, the machinist who founded the Victor Talking Machine Company, bought the ground and paid for a neoclassical branch library that opened in 1918. The city council returned the favour in 1920 by renaming Cooper Park after him. The library and its sculpture court now belong to Rutgers Camden.
