El Jardin del Mar, a bay colony laid out on the Red Bluff ranch
1923
El Jardin del Mar, Seabrook, Texas
This bayfront settlement was laid out in 1923 on land that had been part of William Plunkett Harris's Red Bluff ranch, and the name means the garden of the sea. Around 360 houses face Galveston Bay here, southeast of what used to be Shoreacres, on streets sold as a retreat that ended up a working neighbourhood. The addresses read Seabrook, and the community association keeps a privately published history of the place written in 2002.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
