Edison in Butchertown
1866
Butchertown, Louisville, Kentucky
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Thomas Edison was a nineteen-year-old telegraph operator boarding in a shotgun cottage here, working the night wire and running experiments that got him fired, he spilled acid one night that ate through the floor to the manager's desk below. He left Louisville under a cloud and invented most of the modern world. The little rented house is a museum to the year the city could not keep him.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
