The Edison concept house US Steel poured for its tin mill workers
1910
Gary, Indiana
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Thomas Edison proposed in 1906 that an entire house could be cast by pouring concrete into a single mould, walls, roof, stairs and facade all at once, and this 1910 apartment block for United States Sheet and Tin Plate workers was built on that idea. Edison himself had no direct hand in it. Thousands were arriving in Gary for mill work and the company needed housing faster than bricklayers could raise it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
