Thomas Paine's cottage in New Rochelle

New York State gave Thomas Paine a 300 acre farm here in 1784 for his part in the Revolution, and he lived in this cottage on it from 1802 to 1806. In August 1805 he wrote his last pamphlet in it, an argument for constitutional reform addressed to the citizens of Philadelphia. He was buried on the farm in 1809 and dug up ten years later by an English admirer who shipped the bones across the Atlantic, where they were lost.
