East Chicago Washington goes 29-0 and takes the Indiana state title
East Chicago, Indiana
Washington High School's 1971 team finished undefeated at 29 and 0, averaged about 95 points a game and won Indiana's state championship, ending the season ranked first in the country. Indiana ran a single tournament for every school regardless of size, so that title meant they had beaten everyone in the state outright. The school opened in 1898 and closed in 1986 when it merged into East Chicago Central.
