Dyche Stadium opens for Northwestern football
1926
Central Street, Evanston
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Northwestern's fourth football ground opened in 1926 with 47,000 seats. It was named for William Dyche, an 1882 graduate who was mayor of Evanston and ran the construction, and the trustees renamed it Ryan Field in 1997 for the family of Aon founder Patrick Ryan. The stadium has since been demolished for a replacement on the same block.
