The Kane County Cougars and a ballpark built past the edge of town
1991
Geneva, Illinois
Kane County bought a Wisconsin franchise in 1991 and put it in a 3,600 seat park out past the edge of Geneva. It worked far better than anyone planned. The place has been enlarged to 10,923 seats, drew 408,449 people in 2015, and is now the largest independent league ballpark in the country. The Cougars left affiliated baseball in 2021 when the majors cut the minor leagues down.
