Downtown Boulder Historic District, the commercial town that survived
1980

The district listed in 1980 covers 48 acres of Pearl Street between 9th and 16th plus stretches of Walnut, Spruce and Pine, the commercial core that most Front Range towns cleared and Boulder did not. Four blocks of Pearl inside it were closed to cars and rebuilt as a pedestrian mall in 1977, against objections about parking and lost trade, and the result was copied around the country. The listing was expanded in 2018 to record what happened at the county courthouse in 1975.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
