Lincoln Road is closed to cars and becomes a pedestrian mall
1960
Miami Beach, Florida
Carl Fisher laid the street out in 1914 and sold it as the Fifth Avenue of the South. By the late 1950s the shops were losing to traffic and to competition further north, so the property owners hired Morris Lapidus. He ripped out the roadway and put down a black and white paved spine dotted with fountains and follies, one of the first American main streets given over entirely to walking.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
