Depot Town grew up in the late 1830s around the railroad stop on East Cross Street, and most of the storefronts still standing there went up between 1850 and 1880. The name now stretches past the original two blocks to take in River Street and the two parks on the Huron, Riverside and Frog Island. It is one of the few places in the Detroit ring where the commercial buildings that faced a nineteenth century depot survived in a single run.
