Delta Flight 9877, a training run that hit a Kenner block

On 30 March 1967 a Delta DC-8 practising a landing with two engines shut down struck a residential area on approach to New Orleans International. All six aboard died, five crew and a Federal Aviation Administration observer, and thirteen people on the ground were killed. Homes and part of a motel complex were destroyed. Investigators faulted the instructor's supervision and the handling of the flight and power controls.
