Day Village opened in 1944 as FHA backed apartments for Black families
1944
Dundalk, Maryland
Seventy two buildings of two storey masonry townhouse units went up here in 1944, one of the first privately built garden apartment communities in the country financed with Federal Housing Administration money and built for African American residents. That combination was rare enough at the time to be the reason the place was listed on the National Register in 2020. It is still rental housing.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
