Corron Farm, claimed in 1835 and never broken up
1835
Campton Township, Illinois
Robert Corron was one of the first settlers in Kane County and claimed this ground in 1835, buying it off the government in pieces through the 1840s. The family started in a log cabin and built a brick farmhouse in the early 1850s that mixes Italianate trim with an older classical front. What is rare is the rest of it, a workers' house from the 1880s, a dairy barn and silo, a horse barn, a hog house and a chicken coop, all still standing together. Campton Township bought 222 acres of it in 2003 as its first open space purchase and the county forest preserve took another 122.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
