Aurora opened a 25 bed City Hospital on Weston Avenue in 1888, and it was the only one in town until 1900. Additions in 1916, 1932 and 1947 kept enlarging it, the last two paid for by Ira C. Copley, the newspaper publisher and utility owner whose name the building took in 1947. It closed in 1995 when Rush Copley Medical Center opened on the edge of the city. The empty complex went on the National Register in 2019 and has been worked on for housing since.
