Newark Beth Israel, the hospital the Jewish community built and kept

The hospital was founded at the turn of the twentieth century under the auspices of Newark's Jewish community and settled in Weequahic, the neighbourhood that community filled. The families largely moved out of Weequahic after the 1960s and the hospital stayed. It was run by the community until 1996, when RWJBarnabas bought it, and it is now among the ten largest heart transplant centres in the country.
