Brookdale Hospital, which Brownsville and East New York raised for themselves
1921
Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York
Residents of the two neighborhoods began organizing in 1910 to build a hospital of their own, chartered a society in 1914, and opened seventy five beds on 11 April 1921. It was renamed Beth El in 1932 and Brookdale in 1963. Today it is the main hospital for a stretch of eastern Brooklyn holding about a million people.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
