Conshohocken and the Wood family iron works
1832

James Wood moved his forge operation to this stretch of the Schuylkill in 1832 to get at the iron and anthracite coming down the canal. The business was incorporated as the Alan Wood Iron and Steel Company in 1901 and built the Ivy Rock works just upriver, and steel stayed the borough's mainstay for most of a century. The name comes from a Lenape word, the mills are gone, and the riverfront is now offices and apartments.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
