Camden swallows the town of Stockton and gets Cramer Hill
1899
Camden, New Jersey
Stockton was a separate town until Camden annexed it on 24 March 1899, and everything east of the Cooper River became East Camden overnight. The names of the swallowed villages survive as neighbourhoods: Cramer Hill, Beideman, Rosedale, Marlton and the now forgotten Pavonia. Cramer Hill kept its own main street and its own identity through a century of the city's decline.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
