A foul tidal flat was filled with gravel brought by train from Needham, a trainload every 45 minutes, day and night, for about thirty years. It nearly doubled the size of the peninsula and produced the only large grid in Boston, with its cross streets running alphabetically.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
