Beltway Plaza opens around the biggest suburban department store in Washington
1963
Greenbelt, Maryland
Sidney Brown and First National Realty opened this shopping centre on 17 October 1963, anchored by an S. Klein department store of about 320,000 square feet that was billed as the largest suburban store in the Washington area. A parking lot sat between it and a strip holding an A and P, a barbershop, a drug store and a single cinema screen. The developers roofed the gap in the early 1970s to make an indoor mall. S. Klein closed in 1975 and its space was cut into smaller shops, and the plaza is still trading while a phased redevelopment waits on financing.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
