Landover Mall, and the Sears that owned the ground under it
1972
Landover, Maryland
Sonny Abramson and Ted Lerner opened this mall beside the Beltway on 11 May 1972 and it drew shoppers from across the county for years. The anchors closed one by one, the doors shut in 2002, and demolition followed in 2006. Sears stayed standing after everything else came down, because it owned the land underneath its own store.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
