Bellevue's downtown waterfront was the winter port of a whaling fleet
1919

William Schupp brought the American Pacific Whaling Company's boats into Meydenbauer Bay in 1919, using the new ship canal to lay the fleet up in fresh water through the off season. Every May the boats ran north to work the Gulf of Alaska and the Bering Sea out of Akutan and Port Hobron, hunting blue, humpback, sperm and right whales. The Navy took the docks after Pearl Harbor and the 1942 season was cancelled. The bay is Bellevue's public waterfront park today.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
