Balch Springs incorporated in 1953 to keep Dallas from swallowing it
1953
Balch Springs, Texas
The Balch family settled here around 1870 and found three springs, one of which never ran dry. Neighbours bricked it up and it became the place people met to fill buckets and talk, and the school built later took the springs' name. The area was still farms and a cemetery in 1900. On 13 June 1953 residents voted to incorporate for the specific purpose of blocking annexation by Dallas, and the population climbed fast once Interstate 635 made the commute easy.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
