Argo Dam stops making power and becomes a park
1920
Argo Dam, Huron River, Ann Arbor, Michigan
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
Detroit Edison threw this barrage across the Huron in 1920 to generate electricity, shut the turbines down in 1959, and sold the whole thing to Ann Arbor in 1963. The city kept the water and gave up the power. The pond and banks became the Argo Nature Area and Bandemer Park, and the stretch is now used by paddlers rather than by a utility.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
