These 93 acres above the Meramec River were part of Edwin Lemp's Cragwold estate, built on the fortune of the St. Louis brewery. Over the following century the ground served as a breeding area for the St. Louis Zoo's exotic animals, a riverside resort, and a public pool and tennis club. Developer Russell Emmenegger bought the land in the 1970s and gave part of it to Kirkwood. The park was established on 6 March 1975.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
