Andover Theological Seminary, the first Protestant seminary in America
1807
Academy Hill, Andover, Massachusetts

Congregationalists opened the seminary on Phillips Academy's hill in 1807, partly as an orthodox answer to Harvard drifting Unitarian. It was the first Protestant theological seminary in the United States, and its students organised the first American foreign missionary board three years later. The school moved to Cambridge in 1908 and left its buildings behind, which is why the centre of the Phillips campus is a row of former seminary halls.
