Martin Luther King Jr. spends three years at Crozer Theological Seminary
1948
Upland, Pennsylvania
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
King arrived at this Baptist seminary in Upland in 1948, one of a small number of Black students in the school, and left in 1951 with a bachelor of divinity degree and the student body presidency. The years here are where he worked out the social gospel reading and the interest in Gandhi that shaped everything after. Crozer merged with the Rochester Theological Seminary in 1970, and its Old Main building was absorbed into the hospital next door.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
