By 1968 the hilltop campus enrolled more than a thousand students of colour, most of them Black, recruited through a College Readiness Program that paired financial aid with tutoring. On 15 October 1968 supporters chained the administration building doors and sat in until the president agreed to back it. State Senator Al Alquist wrote the model into law the next year, and it became Extended Opportunity Programs and Services at every community college in California.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
