A park built in the failed reservoir

After the 1963 collapse the drained reservoir bowl sat empty on the ridge above the city for twenty years. It reopened in 1984 as a county park of about 400 acres, with a lake, a lotus pond and a view that runs from downtown to the water. It is one of the largest urban parks in Los Angeles County and one of the few pieces of high open ground in this part of the basin.
