Fort Point

Beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco

A brick coastal fort finished just as rifled artillery made it obsolete, and never fired on. Saved from demolition by the bridge's engineer, who built a steel arch over it rather than clear it. It is the seawall under the bridge where Madeleine throws herself into the bay in Vertigo, the moment the detective's obsession begins.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
