Steel City Con brings comic book creators, actors, and collectibles vendors to the Monroeville Convention Center several times a year, including a December edition. It has run in the Pittsburgh suburbs for over a decade as one of the region's largest pop culture conventions. It draws attendees from across Pennsylvania and neighboring states.

George Romero shot Dawn of the Dead here over the winter of 1977 and 1978, working overnight after the shops closed and using the mall's own staff and skating rink.
On 4 October 2008 clergy and lay delegates of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh met in Monroeville and voted to break from the national Episcopal Church, mostly over sexuality and biblical authority, and to put themselves under the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone in South America.
Monroeville was farmland until the Pennsylvania Turnpike opened an interchange here in 1950 and Route 22 became worth building on.
Maude Helen Malick started the Monroeville Citizens Committee for Library Service in 1960 because the fast growing suburb had no library at all.
