Calvin Pollard and Gamaliel King raised this Greek Revival block of Tuckahoe marble as the city hall of Brooklyn, then a separate city, finishing it in 1848.
A committee of Brooklynites opened the Brooklyn Female Academy on Joralemon Street in 1845, and within a few years it was teaching 350 girls drawn from nineteen states.
Charles Gage opened a restaurant on Fulton Street in 1879 and took Eugene Tollner in as a partner the following year.
Court Street station opened in 1936 as a terminal for local trains and hardly anyone used it, so the shuttle serving it was dropped in 1946 and the platforms sat dark for thirty years.
