Gage and Tollner keeps its gaslights through an Arby's and back

Charles Gage opened a restaurant on Fulton Street in 1879 and took Eugene Tollner in as a partner the following year. They bought this brownstone in 1892 and fitted it out with mahogany paneling, arched mirrors and gas chandeliers that were never converted to electricity. The city later landmarked the facade and the interior both, a pairing almost no other restaurant holds. It closed in 2004 and the room passed through a TGI Friday's, an Arby's, a jewelry store and a clothing shop before three restaurateurs raised the money to reopen it in 2021.
