Del Ray, St Elmo, Mount Ida and Hume were laid out from 1894 on their own street grid, tilted away from Old Town's, and incorporated themselves as the town of Potomac in 1908.
Opened in 1906 as the interchange point where northern and southern railroads swapped freight, the yard sorted thousands of cars a day and drew thousands of workers who settled in Del Ray and St Elmo next door.
Gary Oelze opened the place in 1966 to serve food and it became one of the country's serious rooms for bluegrass, folk, country, blues and jazz.
Burials started here in 1837 when this was one family's private ground, and it was chartered as a community cemetery in 1856.
