Zane Grey's fireproof house, lost to fire in 2025
1907
Altadena, California

Arthur Woodward built the house in 1907 entirely of reinforced concrete, at the insistence of his wife Edith, who had survived the Iroquois Theater fire in Chicago in 1903. Myron Hunt and Elmer Grey designed it and it was called the first fireproof home in Altadena. The western novelist Zane Grey bought it in 1920 and added a studio and library on the roof. The Eaton Fire destroyed it in 2025.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
