Winecoff Hotel fire
December 7, 1946
Peachtree Street, Atlanta
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The deadliest hotel fire in American history killed 119 people in a building advertised as fireproof, which it was, structurally, having no sprinklers, no alarms and a single open stairwell. It rewrote fire codes across the country.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
