Jacqueline Kennedy's aunt and cousin, both named Edith Beale, lived in a twenty-eight-room house here as it fell down around them, raccoons in the walls, cats in the bedrooms, the health department at the door until the Kennedys paid to make it habitable. Two filmmakers spent a summer with them and made a documentary that is either an exploitation or a love letter, and is still argued over.
