Woodstock, the art colony that lent its name
1902

A utopian arts and crafts colony founded on a Catskills hillside made this a painters' and then a musicians' town for seventy years, Bob Dylan came here after his motorcycle crash and made the Basement Tapes nearby. The 1969 festival took the name and was held sixty miles away in Bethel, because Woodstock turned it down.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
