Alexander Winton went into the motor carriage business on Cleveland's west side in 1897 and sold a standard built gasoline car the following year, one of the first American firms to do it. A Winton carried Horatio Nelson Jackson across the country in 1903 on the first transcontinental automobile trip. The firm started building diesel engines in 1912, and the engine works outlasted the cars.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
