Where the Saxons landed and started a synod
1839
Altenburg, Perry County, Missouri

About seven hundred Saxon Lutherans sailed in 1838 rather than accept a state church at home, lost a ship on the way, and settled this ridge in Perry County. Their bishop was expelled for misconduct within months and the colony nearly dissolved. What came out of it instead was a log cabin college at Altenburg in 1839, which became Concordia Seminary, and a church body that is now the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
