Rows of vernacular Victorian houses went up along West Montgomery Avenue between 1880 and 1900 with Eastlake and Stick Style trim, mixed in with lawyers' offices, churches and a funeral home. The old Woodlawn Hotel on the street became Chestnut Lodge, a sanitarium known for treating severe mental illness with psychoanalysis rather than drugs. The Lodge building burned down in 2009.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
