Guilbert and Betelle finished the building in 1932 and classes started in September 1933, in a neighbourhood that held roughly 35,000 Jewish residents between the 1930s and the 1960s and got called the best known Jewish neighbourhood in America. Philip Roth graduated in 1950 and spent a career writing the place, in Portnoy's Complaint, American Pastoral and The Plot Against America. Barbara Kruger and the basketball coach Al Attles came through the same doors, and the 1967 team went undefeated and was ranked first in the country by Scholastic Magazine. The school was added to the National Register in 2024.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
