Barbara Goleman, the county's only National Teacher of the Year
Miami Lakes, Florida
Barbara Goleman taught in Miami-Dade's public schools and was named National Teacher of the Year in 1969, still the only teacher from the district to win it. The high school on 89th Avenue in Miami Lakes carries her name. In 2008 it absorbed a year group from American Senior High during the shuffle that opened Hialeah Gardens High.
