Watts Station, the depot that survived Charcoal Alley

The Pacific Electric built this depot in 1904, one of the first buildings in Watts, and Red Cars ran through it between Los Angeles and Long Beach for decades. When the shops along 103rd Street burned in August 1965, the station was the only structure on that stretch left intact, and the block picked up the name Charcoal Alley. It is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument and is on the National Register.
