Virginia Park, where residents wrote their own rehabilitation plan after 1967

The 1967 rebellion ran through this district on the north side of New Center and left its marks on the brick paving of Virginia Park Street. Residents organised a citizens district council, and in 1968 the city adopted a rehabilitation plan for the blocks around them. By 1970 the council was writing to city hall that the same conditions which set off 1967 were still in place. The brick street is one of the last in Detroit.
