Veterans Memorial Stadium, a 1938 WPA ground with a pro rugby tenant
1938
Quincy, Massachusetts
Works Progress Administration crews built this 5,000 seat stadium between 1937 and 1938, on Merrymount Park land the Adams family had given the city. The Quincy and North Quincy high schools have met here on Thanksgiving morning for generations. Since 2022 it has also been the home ground of the New England Free Jacks of Major League Rugby, which makes it one of the few New Deal stadiums carrying a professional team.
